Healing Lens Photography was born from a moment of profound crisis and an overwhelming sense of gratitude. On Tuesday, October 29, 2024, my wife experienced a ruptured brain aneurysm. What followed was a terrifying sequence of events: a seizure, unconsciousness, and a harrowing period where she stopped breathing before reaching the emergency room. In the blur of those initial hours, as I witnessed her struggle, I was gripped by fear and uncertainty.
Following the rupture, a small stroke impacted her vision, and the first week in the ICU was marked by significant short-term memory loss, a stark reminder of the brain's fragility. The medical team was candid about the odds, yet with each passing day, my wife defied expectations. She navigated vision troubles, challenges with motor control, and persistent dizziness, ultimately emerging with no permanent deficits – a true medical marvel that doctors acknowledged as being within a rare 25% of survivors.
While the initial shock subsided, the recovery process was far from easy. Lingering high brain doppler numbers kept us in the hospital for three weeks, under constant watch for the threat of vasospasm and another potential stroke. The mental and emotional toll of the steroid medication added another layer of complexity to an already stressful situation, and the adjustment to home was a journey in itself.
Witnessing Angela endure the incredible stress, pain, and the long, arduous recovery process ignited a clear purpose within me. While it was my realization that other survivors deserved recognition for their strength, survival, and the immense challenges they overcome, Angela's resilience through it all was truly the catalyst. Even now, five months later, although she is practically perfect, the occasional small issues remind us of what happened, fueling my unyielding desire to help others on an emotional and personal level. I can't offer medical assistance, but I deeply hope that my photography can bring some peace and happiness into their lives. What happened to Angela turned my world upside down and filled my mind with doubts about the future, and there are still lingering worries about her health. Doing this, creating Healing Lens Photography, is not only for others but also a way for me to navigate this ongoing journey alongside my incredible wife, Angela.
This is why Healing Lens Photography was created. It is born from a place of deep understanding and profound respect for the journeys of recovery. Our mission is to provide a compassionate and professional photography experience that celebrates the strength and resilience of survivors, offering tangible memories that acknowledge their incredible fight and the hope that endures. My wife’s story is our inspiration, and it fuels our commitment to making these empowering moments accessible to everyone who needs them.
